Do I have to be a realtor to sell real estate in CA?

I know the difference between a realtor and a real estate agent. I was under the impression that an agent can work and sell real estate, but can’t call him/herself a realtor unless they belong the the Association of Realtors. I believe that you would have to be a realtor to subscribe to the MLS.
No, it would be restraint of trade for the state to force you to join the National Association of Realtors. All you need to be is licensed.
In many states the courts have held that the MLS must be open to everyone, although they are typically owned by the local Board of Realtors. The MLS is localized, typically to a single metro area, so check with your local MLS to see what their rules are.

No you do not have to be a member of the National Association of Realtors to sell real estate. You simply have to be licensed. A Realtor is a member of the National Association of Realtors.
You will have to check with the local MLS to see if they require you to join National Association of Realtors.

You are correct, you do not need to be a "Realtor" to sell real estate in CA but you do need to be licensed through the department of real estate (www.dre.ca.gov).
I don’t think my board requires that its members be Realtors to get access to the MLS but some boards might. Check with your local board.
